Description
Over the past few years, the integration of GenAI into education is perceived as the inevitable trajectory and standard modality for modern education. Generative models have proved its effectiveness for instructors and learners in designing instructional materials as well as delivering immediate and personalized feedback for students. While the studies investigating GenAI readiness has gained its popularity globally, in Vietnam, research about this topic with participants as EFL prospective teachers is still limited. Employing the TAM3 framework and mixed-method approach, the study measures the level of PU, PEOU and BI, evaluating the predictability of PU, PEOU to BI using Multiple Regression data analysis as well as points out the supporting and hindering factors affecting participants’ GenAI adoption in teaching. Data were collected from 167 EFL pre-service teachers, revealing their positive attitude regarding the usefulness of GenAI - powered tools while demonstrating a nuanced perspective regarding GenAI ease of use and willingness to adopt them for future teaching. Moreover, while PU is a strong predictor of BI, PEOU exhibits comparatively lower predictive power over the same construct. Job relevance, Output quality, GenAI playfulness, Result demonstrability, Image are among constructs that facilitate the willingness to adopt GenAI in teaching practices among EFL pre-service teachers, while factors hindering generative model integration are GenAI incapability, Information inaccuracy, Data insecurity, Excessive dependency, Output quality and Cost. This study proposes pedagogical implications to enhance GenAI literacy and acceptance among Vietnamese EFL prospective teachers, including the organization of professional training workshops and publication of internal documents guiding proper adoption, therefore empowering them with skills to evaluate strengths and weaknesses of different GenAI - based tools, grasp effective prompting strategies and foster human and GenAI collaboration in designing learning materials for EFL education.
