Description
It can be realized that most foreign language learners find writing difficult as it requires them not only to have large vocabulary but also to know how to organize ideas, how to write arguments with evidence and good reasoning to meet the task requirements. Therefore, language learners, especially non-English major students are in need of constructive feedback from their teachers, who identify any mistakes that they make, give comments on their strengths and weaknesses as well as give them suggestions on how to correct their mistakes and improve their academic writing skill. However, it takes teachers a great amount of time and effort to read students’ essays, identify their mistakes and give them necessary feedback. Nowadays, with the fast development of artificial intelligence, ChatGPT is becoming a more and more popular tool in foreign language education. This research focuses only on how ChatGPT assists teachers in giving feedback on non-English major students’ writing so that they can enrich their academic vocabulary, have good word choice and a wide range of vocabulary to improve their writing quality. Experimental research is conducted with one experimental group and one control group, who are all students at University of Economics and Business, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. The research results show significant improvement in students ‘vocabulary use in their writing.
