The widespread adoption of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is reshaping English language education and transforming how university students engage in English language practices. While existing research has primarily examined AI adoption, AI-assisted writing, and AI literacy, limited attention has been paid to the broader social impact of GenAI on students' language practices, particularly in the Vietnamese higher education context. Drawing on the concepts of AI-mediated communication, language practices, and responsible AI use, this study explores how generative AI influences Vietnamese university students' English writing, learning, communication, and ethical language use. A mixed-methods design will be employed, combining a questionnaire with semi-structured interviews to investigate students' experiences, perceived benefits, and emerging challenges associated with AI-mediated language practices. Quantitative data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics and reliability analysis, while qualitative data will be subjected to thematic analysis. The study is expected to provide insights into the evolving relationship between generative AI and English language practices and offer pedagogical implications for promoting critical AI literacy, ethical AI use, and responsible language learning in Vietnamese higher education.
