The burgeoning advancement of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), driven by state-of-the-art large language models (LLMs), has triggered a fundamental paradigmatic shift in translational practice and scholarly inquiry, posing profound challenges to the canonical epistemological foundations and methodological paradigms of Translation Studies. Centred on human subjectivity, cross-cultural mediation and linguistic equivalence, conventional translation epistemology faces structural theoretical and practical disruptions stemming from AI-powered automated translation, intelligent post-editing and generative textual reconstruction. Meanwhile, traditional research methodologies, which privilege qualitative theoretical speculation and small-scale empirical analysis, can no longer accommodate the data-intensive, intelligent and interdisciplinary trajectory of contemporary translational research. This study systematically unpacks the core epistemological predicaments that beset orthodox Translation Studies in the GenAI era, elaborates on disciplinary epistemological reconstruction across three foundational dimensions: translational subjectivity, knowledge production mechanisms and value normativity, and advocates for systematic methodological renewal and optimisation. By formulating an updated research paradigm anchored in human-AI translational collaboration, mixed-method qualitative-quantitative integration and interdisciplinary cross-fertilisation, this research offers robust theoretical grounding and methodological implications for the transformative evolution of Translation Studies in the intelligent age.
