Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming educational practices and creating new opportunities for global collaboration. This paper explores the role of AI in developing global classrooms that promote language learning, intercultural competence, and identity formation among learners from diverse cultural backgrounds. The purpose of this study is to examine how AI-powered tools can facilitate meaningful cross-cultural communication, support multilingual learning, and encourage students to construct and express their identities in digitally connected learning environments.
The study employs a qualitative case-study approach involving secondary and tertiary-level learners participating in AI-enhanced global classroom activities. Data are collected through classroom observations, student reflections, interviews, and analyses of interactions generated through AI-supported platforms. The research investigates how AI tools, including conversational chatbots, translation systems, and collaborative learning applications, mediate communication and cultural exchange among participants.
The findings are expected to demonstrate that AI can significantly enhance language development by providing personalized feedback, authentic communication opportunities, and access to multilingual resources. Furthermore, AI-supported global classrooms are anticipated to strengthen learners’ intercultural awareness by exposing them to diverse perspectives and cultural practices. The study also expects to reveal that students actively negotiate and reconstruct their identities through interactions with both peers and AI systems, leading to greater confidence and global citizenship awareness.
The implications of this research highlight the potential of AI as a transformative tool for creating inclusive, culturally responsive, and globally connected learning environments. The study offers practical recommendations for educators seeking to integrate AI into language education while fostering cultural understanding and supporting learners’ evolving identities in an increasingly interconnected world.
