Description

This case study explores how engineering students specializing in Electric Vehicles (EVs) and Hybrid Vehicles (HVs) at the University of Transport Technology, Vietnam, use Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) to facilitate intersemiotic translation by transforming abstract technical concepts into multimodal visual representations. In ESP classrooms, students use ChatGPT and Canva AI to create annotated technical infographics and energy-flow diagrams illustrating concepts to support oral presentations. Data are collected through classroom observations, qualitative analysis of student-generated learning artifacts, and post-project questionnaires. Grounded in multimodal semiotics, the study is expected to provide insights into the role of GenAI-assisted intersemiotic translation in supporting technical vocabulary acquisition. It also seeks to examine how multimodal meaning-making may enhance students' comprehension, retention, and communication of specialized engineering concepts in ESP learning.
