Description

This study adopts a quantitative research design to investigate first-year students' perceptions and experiences with the AI-supported platform Mizou within Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) speaking activities at the University of Foreign Languages, Hue University. Data will be collected through a structured online questionnaire including five-point Likert-scale items and open-ended questions, focusing on perceived effectiveness of Mizou for English speaking practice, and intentions to continue utilizing AI for self-directed language learning. Quantitative data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics to identify general trends and perceptions, while qualitative responses will be examined thematically to explore students' experiences. It is anticipated that the findings will demonstrate predominantly positive student attitudes towards the AI-supported CLT approach, including enhancements in speaking confidence, increased engagement, and heightened motivation. Students are also expected to express favorable evaluations of Mizou’s features, particularly its provision of immediate feedback, interactive speaking practice, and support for autonomous learning. These results may underscore the potential of combining AI with communicative pedagogies to enhance speaking development, learner confidence, and motivation in English language acquisition. Ultimately, the study aims to provide valuable insights for English language educators seeking to integrate AI into communicative language teaching in pedagogically sound ways.
